You’re words and work is definitely love. Thank you for sharing. I have always put others first and now realize how damaging that has become. I get up every morning now at5 am and go for a walk. Rain, snow, wind or no matter what. This is my time to clear my mind focus on my day and be able to set healthy loving boundaries. I arrived here through a life time of pain, hurt and trauma and now I am able to celebrate me. Let go of the expectation that others need to validate me.

Dear David,
Thank you for your inspired books and this video. Especially do I thank you for your tremendous message you present on death and dying. Your books were very practical for me when I was doing ministry with the sick and dying, a truly transforming ministry.

Thank you, David.

Your message today resonated with me.

I have a ministry in which I visit approximately twenty-four people a week.
Some are sick, elderly, dying or grieving. Mixed in with these individuals are family and/or professional caregivers. We share, pray, laugh, and cry together.

When I return to my apartment, I feel weary but happy. I must confess - if I am lucky, an hour (or two) nap does wonders. Now I have six self-care suggestions to add to my my horizontal life line.

May God continue to bless you, David.

David, thank you for some more of your resonating wisdom. All of your books, and the times I've seen you in person, have nourished me, now these video snippets keep bringing more. My own self-care tip is that "it's all about the practice." It's what I actually do every day to care for myself that matters, not thinking about it or talking about it. And what I do is encompassed in your six tips, plus meditation.

Thank you for reminding us of this important information. We all know it, but it's important to hear someone in our field who gets it to remind us that this is real and we need to stay on top of this if we are to continue to do good work.

Thank you David for sharing your personal grief, so hard to accept. Death is a mystery and needs a lot of open mind and hearth and personal work, to understand it and make it a richness for our lifes. Thanks for your work

Dear David, many thanks. I have an answer now to the questions I had about individuals who appear not to be empathetic to those in grief. they expect them to recover quickly. I was sharing with wrong partners. they do not yet understand our language.

Dear David, thank you for explaining compassion fatigue, and his vital self care is. Your tribute to your son was touching, and a very real example of how we all have our own trauma to work through, even though we are in a position of helping others. Blessings to you my friend.

Always Helpful, yes we are human too. Interesting, the losses/trauma in my life come in waves of 3 or 4 at a time. If we do not know how to care for ourselves how can we possibly teach others. Simple reminders, but yet when your in the middle of the storm we tend to forget the simple things. its' great to have these simple but critical reminder for those of us in the trenches. Much Appreciated . Peace, and May God's Blessings Shower You Daily. :)

Thank you for this video. We often know what to do though sometimes I think it's good to hear it from others. Exercise is key; it has a way of clearing the muck out of my head from the day. I also will look at something that makes me laugh either on T.V. or social media. I incorporate this on a daily basis. Thank you David for your videos and for what you do for us out here in the field! Bless you!

Dear David: I thought that your message was so very important and I am truly sorry for your loss. I would like to send you a book that I wrote called, To Heal Again, Toward Serenity And The Resolution of Grief. The main thing is that it gives permission to grieve in your own unique way - it is the voice of an Inner Benevolent Mother who represents Self Care among other spiritual nourishment. Could you or someone in your office send me your address so that I can send you my book as a gift to you. Self Care is so overlooked, especially in the helping professions, so this tape is very much needed in our culture. My email is: rowsbud@earthlink.net. With gratitude and blessings, Rusty Berkus

I wish I'd had explained to me before the damage was done that my spouse would not be able to meet my needs no matter what. I was looking for milk in a hardware store and in the end, the hardware store closed its doors to me coz it got tired of the interruptions and the 'victimhood' of a depressed spouse...sad but maybe now a little wiser...that grief and loss compounded the work grief at the time. this grief, the loss of my primary relationship, I think will never disappear because it was a matter of love but learning day by day to channel that grief into others and causes... thanks for sharing your wisdom.
